Questions

Questions about numbers:

Q: Why is it veintiún carros and NOT veintiuno carros?

When any number ending with the form uno (uno, veintiuno, treinta y uno, ciento uno, etc.), the "o" is dropped when it occurs directly before a masculine noun.

Q: Why is it ciento tres and NOT ciento y tres?

Do not use the conjunction y after the hundreds or thousands place, they are only used after the tens place.

Q: Why is it dieciséis and NOT diez y seis?

The numbers from 16-29 are written as one word. Note there are accents on some of these numbers so review the information given above if you are unsure.

Q: Why is it 1.436.700,75 and NOT 1,436,700.75?

Spanish uses periods to separate thousands and a comma to mark the decimal.

Q: Why is it hay mil doscientas mujeres and NOT hay un mil doscientos mujeres?

Do not use the article un before mil or cien and the hundreds from doscientas-novecientas have feminine forms that must be used before feminine nouns.
